Detailed Itinerary: Flores Land Tour - West to East (5-Day Tour)

Day 1. Labuan Bajo – Denge – Wae Rebo (Approx. 100 km · 5 hours driving to Denge)

Your Flores adventure begins with a pick-up at your accommodation in Labuan Bajo. From there, we set off on a scenic drive toward Denge Village, the trailhead for one of Flores’ most extraordinary destinations—the legendary Wae Rebo Traditional Village.

Along the way, we’ll pause at several scenic spots to capture the beauty of the changing landscape. Upon arrival at Denge, we begin our 3-hour trek through dense, verdant jungle, covering approximately 9 kilometers. The trail winds steadily upward to an altitude of 1,200 meters above sea level, rewarding every step with cooler air and the promise of something truly special.

And then, emerging from the clouds like a vision from another era, Wae Rebo reveals itself—a cluster of iconic cone-shaped houses, known as Mbaru Niang, set against a sweeping valley backdrop. This is not just a village; it is a living cultural treasure, one of the last remaining places on Earth where ancestral architecture and way of life are preserved in their purest form.

Upon arrival, you’ll be warmly welcomed by the community—their smiles and hospitality instantly making you feel at home. The village is surrounded by pristine natural beauty, offering a serene escape from the modern world.

Day 2. Wae Rebo – Denge – Ruteng (Approx. 70 km · 3.5 hours driving)

Wake up to the soft golden light filtering through the misty valleys of Wae Rebo—a morning in this enchanting village that will stay with you forever. After a simple breakfast shared with your host family, take time to wander through the village, interact with the local community, and learn about their way of life and unique culture. Whether observing daily rituals, hearing stories of ancestors, or simply sharing smiles, these moments of connection are what make Wae Rebo so unforgettable.

When the time comes to say goodbye, you’ll begin your descent along the same jungle trail, retracing your steps back to Denge Village. The walk down takes approximately 3 hours, but the journey feels lighter—the forest that once felt mysterious now feels familiar, each step carrying the satisfaction of having experienced something truly rare.

Upon reaching Denge, we continue our drive toward Ruteng, with a memorable stop at Cara Village in the Cancar area. Here, you’ll witness one of Flores’ most spectacular sights—the Spider Web Ricefields, an ancient irrigation system that fans out across the hillsides in mesmerizing geometric patterns, a testament to the ingenuity of the Manggarai people.

Arriving in Ruteng, we check in to your chosen accommodation for the night.

Day 3. Ruteng – Bajawa (Approx. 135 km · 5 hours driving)

After breakfast, we begin our journey toward Bajawa, with fascinating stops along the way that reveal the rich cultural and natural heritage of Flores.

Our first stop is Liang Bua Natural Cave, the famous archaeological site where the remains of Homo floresiensis—the “hobbit” of human evolution—were discovered. Walk through the cavernous limestone chamber and visit the mini-museum to learn about this groundbreaking discovery that rewrote human history.

Continuing our journey, we pause at the serene Ranamese Lake, a natural crater lake surrounded by lush hills—a perfect spot for reflection and photography.

Next, we visit Aimere Village on the south coast, where you’ll witness the traditional process of making Arack Flores, a local alcoholic drink from palm juice. You’ll see the tapping, fermentation, and distillation process, and even have the chance to taste the final product.

Arriving in Bajawa, we check in to your accommodation. In the afternoon, we’ll visit Mangeruda Natural Hot Spring, where you can soak in warm, mineral-rich waters and let the day’s adventures melt away.

Day 4. Bajawa – Moni (Approx. 170 km · 6 hours driving)

After breakfast, we begin our day with a visit to the iconic Bena Traditional Village—one of Flores’ most well-preserved megalithic sites. Here, you’ll walk among ancient stone structures, admire the distinctive cone-roofed houses, and learn about the spiritual beliefs and social structures of the Ngada people. Interact with the friendly local inhabitants, capture stunning photographs, and immerse yourself in the timeless atmosphere of this remarkable village.

Continuing our journey toward Moni Village, we stop at the Blue Stone Beach for a relaxing break—a beautiful coastal spot where blue-hued pebbles meet the turquoise sea. Take a refreshing swim or simply enjoy the soothing sound of the waves.

Passing through Ende, we make a final stop at Wologai Traditional Village, home to the Lio tribe, before arriving in Moni Village. Check in to your accommodation and prepare for tomorrow’s sunrise adventure.

Day 5. Moni – Kelimutu – Ende or Maumere (Approx. 100 km to Maumere · 3 hours driving / 50 km to Ende)

Wake before dawn for the highlight of your Flores journey—a visit to the mystical Kelimutu Three-Colored Lake. A one-hour drive from Moni brings you to the parking area, followed by a gentle 30-minute walk along paved steps to the summit.

As the first rays of light break over the horizon, the three crater lakes reveal themselves in all their glory—each pool glowing in a distinct hue, shifting between turquoise, emerald, and deep burgundy depending on the light and season. Surrounded by panoramic views of rolling hills and distant volcanoes, this is a moment of pure magic—one that words can scarcely capture.

After soaking in the beauty, we make our way back down to the parking area and return to your hotel in Moni for a well-deserved breakfast.

After breakfast, we continue our journey to Maumere or Ende, where you’ll be dropped off at your chosen accommodation or the airport for your next destination.

Your Flores tour ends here—but the memories of Kelimutu’s colors, Wae Rebo’s warmth, and the spirit of this remarkable island will stay with you forever.
