Detailed Itinerary: Komodo and Homo Floresiensis (Flores Hobbit Cave) Tour (4-Day TOur)

Day 1. Labuan Bajo – Kelor Island – Menjerite – Kalong Island (Lunch/Dinner)

Your adventure begins with a convenient pick-up at your hotel or the airport in Labuan Bajo. From there, we transfer to the harbor, where a traditional wooden boat awaits to carry you across the sparkling waters of Komodo National Park.

Our first destination is Kelor Island, a small but stunning island with a trail that rewards the effort it asks. A short trek takes you to the top of the island, where a breathtaking panorama unfolds before your eyes—turquoise waters, rugged coastlines, and the scattered jewels of surrounding islets stretching to the horizon.

Back on board, we continue to Menjerite, a world-class snorkeling spot where crystal-clear waters reveal a vibrant underwater world. Slip beneath the surface and discover a kaleidoscope of coral gardens teeming with colorful reef fish, graceful sea turtles, and perhaps even a passing manta ray.

As the afternoon begins to mellow, we set course for Kalong Island, famous for its spectacular evening ritual. As the sun begins to dip toward the horizon, thousands of fruit bats emerge from the mangrove trees, soaring across the fiery sky in a mesmerizing dance of silhouettes against the sunset. It’s a natural spectacle that has captivated travelers for generations.

Throughout the day, a delicious lunch and dinner will be served on board. Tonight, your accommodation is on the boat—a unique and authentic experience, lulled to sleep by the gentle rocking of the waves.

Overnight on the boat.

Day 2. Padar Island – Pink Beach – Komodo Island - Taka Makassar - Manta Point (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)

Wake up to the soft golden light filtering through the cabin windows and enjoy a hearty breakfast on board as the boat glides across the calm morning waters.

Our first destination today is Padar Island for a morning trek to the summit—a perfect opportunity to capture the sunrise and the spectacular panorama that has made this island famous. The view from the top is nothing short of breathtaking, with the surrounding islands and turquoise waters stretching endlessly before you.

Next, we sail to Pink Beach, one of Komodo’s most treasured gems. Its blush-colored sands, created by microscopic red coral fragments, create a striking contrast with the azure sea. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to snorkel in vibrant underwater gardens, where colorful coral formations and schools of tropical fish create a living masterpiece beneath the surface.

Next, we make our way to Komodo Island, the namesake of the national park and the original habitat of the legendary Komodo dragon. Accompanied by an experienced ranger, you’ll trek through the island’s diverse landscape, searching for these ancient reptiles in their natural environment. Along the way, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of their behavior, ecology, and the conservation efforts that protect them.

Then our next stop is Manta Point, a world-renowned snorkeling site where the majestic manta rays often glide through the crystal-clear waters. While sightings are never guaranteed—depending largely on weather and season—the thrill of possibility is palpable as you slip beneath the surface. Nearby, Taka Makasar offers equally stunning snorkeling opportunities, with vibrant coral gardens and an abundance of marine life.

Throughout the day, breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served on board. Tonight, you’ll once again sleep under the stars, cradled by the gentle rhythm of the sea.

Overnight on the boat.

Day 3. Siaba Island – Sebayur Island – Labuan Bajo (Breakfast/Lunch)

Enjoy your final breakfast on board as the boat glides across the calm morning waters, carrying you toward one last day of underwater wonder.

Our first destination is to Siaba Island, a tranquil spot where the waters are often visited by graceful sea turtles. Snorkeling here feels like swimming in an aquarium—turtles gliding effortlessly, schools of colorful fish darting through coral, and the serene beauty of an untouched underwater world surrounding you.

Our final stop is Sebayur Island, a hidden gem offering excellent off-shore snorkeling just steps from the shore. The waters here are calm and clear, perfect for one last immersion in the vibrant marine ecosystem that makes Komodo National Park so legendary. Lounge on the pristine beach, swim in the turquoise sea, or simply soak in the serenity of this untouched paradise.

As the afternoon begins to mellow, we set course back to Labuan Bajo, the vibrant coastal town that marks the end of your boat expedition. Upon arrival at the harbor, our vehicle awaits to transfer you to your chosen hotel, where you can rest and prepare for tomorrow’s inland adventure.

Overnight at your chosen hotel in Labuan Bajo.

Day 4. Labuan Bajo – Ruteng – Liang Bua "Homo Floresiensis Cave" – Labuan Bajo (Breakfast)

After breakfast at your hotel, we depart early for a fascinating inland journey to the highlands of Flores. Our destination is Liang Bua Cave, near the town of Ruteng—the very site where the remains of Homo floresiensis, the “hobbit” of human evolution, were discovered in 2003.

The drive takes approximately 4 hours, winding through scenic landscapes of rolling hills, lush valleys, and traditional villages. Along the way, we’ll make a memorable stop at Cancar Village to witness the Lodok—spectacular spider-web rice fields that fan out across the hillsides in mesmerizing geometric patterns, a testament to the ingenuity of the Manggarai people.

Upon arrival at Liang Bua, you’ll explore the cave itself and the mini-museum located right in front of it. Here, you’ll learn about the groundbreaking archaeological discoveries that rewrote human history, see replicas of the ancient fossils, and gain a deeper understanding of the island’s rich paleontological heritage. Walking through the cavernous limestone chamber, you’ll feel a profound connection to the distant past.

After a fulfilling visit, we enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before beginning our return journey to Labuan Bajo, retracing the scenic route through Ruteng. The drive back takes approximately 4 hours, arriving in Labuan Bajo in the late afternoon.

Upon arrival, you’ll be transferred to your chosen hotel, marking the end of your Komodo & Homo Floresiensis adventure.
