Day 1. Labuan Bajo toWae Rebo Village (L/D)
Our friendly tour guide and the driver will meet you at your chosen location, whether at your hotel in Labuan Bajo or directly at Komodo Airport (LBJ) upon your arrival. You will be transferred comfortably by air-conditioned car to begin your journey. We kindly recommend taking a morning flight or staying overnight in Labuan Bajo before the tour to ensure a relaxed start.
The drive from Labuan Bajo to the trekking starting point at Denge Village takes approximately 5 hours. Along the way, you will pass through beautiful West Flores landscapes, rolling hills, rice field, coffee plantations, and small villages where life moves at a gentle pace.
Upon arrival at Denge Village, a short rest and briefing, your trek to Wae Rebo Village begins. The trek takes approximately 2 to 3 hours through lush mountain jungle. The path winds upward through tall trees, bamboo groves, and sometimes across small streams. The air grows cooler and fresher with every step. We will be honest with you: the trail can be steep in places. But your guide will walk with you, patiently matching your pace, offering encouragement along the way.
As you approach the village clearing, the mist may part to reveal the seven iconic conical houses, Mbaru Niang, standing in a semicircle against the mountain backdrop. It is a sight that has brought tears to the eyes of many travelers. The local community will welcome you with a traditional ceremony, a humble, heartfelt greeting that has been performed for generations. You will be welcomed not just as a visitor or a traveler, but as part of the family and will be invited to sit with the elders and learn about the village’s history, customs, and spiritual beliefs.
In the evening, dinner will be served simply home-cooked local food, prepared with care by the village women. You will eat together in one of the traditional houses, sharing stories and laughter.
Your accommodation for the night is a simple shared sleeping space inside a traditional house. You will be provided with a mattress, pillow, and blanket. The experience is humble but authentic. This is how the Manggarai people have lived for centuries.
At night, the air becomes cool and refreshing, pure and untouched by city lights. We encourage you to spend some time under the stars. If the sky is clear, you will be treated to the magnificent Milky Way, glowing brilliantly above the village. For those who bring a camera, the magnificent Milky Way often reveals itself in all its glory, offering a truly unforgettable opportunity for night sky photography.
Please know: there is no electricity in the village. Solar-powered lights provide soft illumination for a few hours each evening. This is your chance to truly disconnect and embrace the stillness of the mountain.
