TOUR ITINERARY FOR 2 DAYS KOMODO ISLAND TOUR BY WOODEN BOAT
Day 1. Labuan Bajo - Kelor Island - Menjerite - Kalong (L,D)
We know every traveler has a different story. Some of you are already staying in Labuan Bajo. Others are flying in on a morning flight and want to go straight to the boat. The tour guide will pick you up from from your hotel or in the airport, you’ll enjoy a comfortable air-conditioned car ride (10–15 minutes) to Labuan Bajo Harbor. This is where your sea story begins. You step onto local wooden boat, the crew welcomes you with warm smiles. Then, with a low rumble of the engine, we leave Labuan Bajo behind.
Our first stop is Kelor Island; a small island with a big personality. A lush green hill rises from the turquoise water, begging to be climbed. The trek to the top takes only 10–15 minutes, a gentle path of natural stairs and rocky terrain. Most people, from children to active seniors, can manage it just fine. And the reward at the top? A view that will steal your breath. Rolling green hills meeting a sea so blue it almost hurts to look at. No crowds. No noise. Just you, the wind, and the endless horizon.
After descending from the hilltop, we sail to Manjarite Bay (sometimes spelled “Menjerite”). This hidden bay is, without exaggeration, one of the best snorkeling spots near Labuan Bajo. Below the surface lies a thriving coral garden; healthy, colorful, and alive. Schools of tropical fish dart between the corals in shades of blue, yellow, orange, and striped black-and-white. If you’re lucky, you might even spot a clownfish hiding in its anemone.
Lunch will be served on the boat. You’ll eat on deck, with the sea breeze in your hair and nothing but blue water surrounding you. This is what lunch should always look like.
Depending on the weather, time, currents, and your mood, you can snorkel again at the spot if you haven’t had enough, or continue the journey to the next spot ; kalong Island.
This is the moment you’ve been waiting for and why people choose a liveaboard.
Kalong Island is not a place for trekking or snorkeling. It is a small island covered in dense mangrove forest and it is home to thousands of fruit bats (kalong in local language).
All day long, these bats hang upside down in the mangroves, sleeping, waiting for night to fall. They are nocturnal creatures. And just as the sun begins to set, around 05:30 PM – 06:00 PM depending on the season, they wake up. And then it happens.
A living river of bats pours out of the mangroves. They fly in wave after wave, forming a dark cloud against the orange, pink, and purple sky. The sound of their wings is like a soft whisper. The spectacle lasts for 15–30 minutes, until the sky turns dark and the bats disappear into the night to feed. You will watch this from the deck of your boat, anchored at a respectful distance. Hot tea or coffee in hand. Camera ready (but honestly, no photo can capture the feeling).
After the bats have flown and the sun has disappeared, we sail to a calm spot to anchor for the night. Our crew prepares warm dinner, homemade Indonesian cooking. Eat on deck under a canopy of stars. There is no light pollution here, just the moon and the Milky Way. After dinner, you can lie on the deck and stare at the stars. Count shooting stars if you’re lucky. Listen to the gentle lapping of waves against the wooden hull. This is why you sleep on a boat.
Your “room” for the night? A small, cozy cabin with mattresses. This is an authentic local experience, not a luxury hotel, but if you want to sleep with the sound of the ocean and wake up at sunrise already in paradise, this is for you.
Day 2. Padar Island- Komodo Island - Pink Beach - Taka Makassar - Manta Point (B,L)
There’s no alarm clock on a liveaboard. The sun wakes you.
Step onto the deck with a cup of hot coffee or tea. Watch as the sky turns from dark blue to soft pink to glowing orange. The water is calm. The air is cool. And your boat is already sailing toward today’s first destination. This is the best way to start any day. Ever.
A simple but satisfying breakfast to fuel your morning, then step off your boat and start trekking to the Padar Island. Padar Island needs no introduction. You’ve seen the photos on Instagram. The postcards. The travel blogs. But seeing it with your own eyes is something else entirely. a trekking to the summit of the island rewards you with the most spectacular panoramic view in all of Komodo National Park. Three stunning bays stretch out below you, one with white sand, one with black sand, and one with pink sand, all meeting the turquoise sea. The curve of the coastline. The colors of the water. The feeling of standing on top of the world.
Then comes the moment you’ve been waiting for. Komodo Island. One of the only places on earth where the legendary Komodo dragon roams free. A local ranger meets you at the ranger station. He carries a wooden stick, not to hurt the dragons, but to keep a safe distance. He knows these animals. He respects them. And he will keep you safe. Together, you trek through the dry forest. Your eyes scan the shade under trees, the open patches of grass. And then, you see it. A Komodo dragon. Maybe it’s basking in the morning sun. Maybe it’s walking slowly across the trail. Maybe it’s resting in the shade, tongue flicking in and out, tasting the air. Your heart pounds. Your camera clicks. And you realize, this is not a zoo. This is the wild.
Back on the boat, our crew serves another freshly cooked lunch. Same quality, same love, different menu. You’ll eat while sailing toward the next paradise; the pink Beach.
Pink Beach is exactly what it sounds like, a beach with sand that glows soft pink. The color comes from crushed red coral mixed with white sand. It’s subtle, but unmistakable. And when the sun is high, the pink comes alive. Here, you’ll have time to: Snorkel in crystal-clear waters filled with colorful fish, walk on pink sand and take the obligatory Instagram photos or simply relax on the exotic pink sand under the shade of a tree.
Then heading to taka makassar (a Sandbar in the middle of the Komodo Sea). Taka Makassar is not an island. It is a sandbar, a small, white-sand paradise that appears in the middle of the ocean This is a favorite spot for: walking on the sandbar and feeling like you’re in a postcard, taking photos (the shots here are incredible, or Snorkeling in the shallow water around the sandbar.
Our final stop before heading back to Labuan Bajo is Manta Point, a cleaning station where graceful manta rays often gather. Here’s the honest truth: Manta rays are wild animals. They are not trained. They show up when they want to. Sightings depend on luck, weather, currents, and the mood of the mantas. These gentle giants, some with wingspans wider than your arm span, swim right past you. They are curious. They are graceful. They are breathtaking. If you are lucky, you will swim with manta rays. If you are not lucky, you will still enjoy one of the most beautiful snorkeling spots in Komodo. Clear water, healthy corals, and plenty of fish.
After an incredible two days, we set sail back to Labuan Bajo. We arrive at Labuan Bajo Harbor in the early evening. Drop off options: Hotel (Our driver and tour guide will take you to your hotel in Labuan Bajo) or drop off to airport (If you have a flight, our driver and tour guide will take you to Komodo Airport). And just like that, your 2-day Komodo liveaboard adventure comes to an end. But the memories? They will last a lifetime.

WHAT MAKES THIS 2 DAYS KOMODO TOUR DIFFERENT?
On a speedboat tour, you race across the water to tick off the highlights. On our wooden boat liveaboard, you sail slowly, gracefully, and authentically. You’ll visit the same iconic spots: Padar, Pink Beach, Komodo Island, Manta Point & Taka Makassar, and Kalong Island. But you’ll experience them at a more relaxed pace, with fewer crowds, and with the magic of spending the night in the middle of Komodo’s turquoise waters.
This is for the adventurer who doesn’t mind trading a hotel bed for a boat cabins. Who wants to wake up to the sound of waves, not an alarm clock. Who understands that sometimes, the journey itself is the destination.
