TREKKING TO THE EGON VOLCANO ( 1-DAY TRIP )

Early breakfast at your hotel or take a breakfast box with you. Depart from the hotel by Car. Then, drop you off at the starting point of the trek near Blidit Village. It is about 45 minutes from the hotel to the starting point by car. Upon arrival at the foot of Egon Volcano (as a trek start point), you will start doing trekking to the Egon Volcano’s summit.

The trekking takes about 3-4 hours to reach the top of the volcano. You need to be strong and have better trekking skills. As this volcano trekking is categorized into the medium level of difficulty.

Upon reaching out the top of the mountain, you will be amazed by the spectacular view around Maumere. You will also see the thick smoke coming out of the crater. It has a strong sulphuric smell produced by the volcano.

If you are OK with your stamina, it is also possible to get down into the huge crater and see a big hole from the epicentrum of the last explosion of this volcano some years ago.

After spending your time there, you will trek down at same route to get back to the starting point. Then, drive back to your hotel in Maumere.

Note:
If you are interested, you can visit Dokar village in the afternoon to witness and learn more about local culture, and the traditional Ikat weaving process and see traditional dance performances. It is about 1-hour drive from Maumere to reach the village.
