Pink Beach in Komodo Island

Pink Beach, or Pantai Merah in Indonesian, is one of the most unique and beautiful beaches in the world. Located on the eastern shore of Komodo Island within Komodo National Park, it is one of only seven pink sand beaches on Earth and a highlight of any Komodo tour.
Why is the Sand Pink?
The beach gets its distinctive rosy hue from microscopic red organisms called Foraminifera. These tiny marine creatures produce red pigment, and when their shells wash ashore and mix with the white coral sand, they create the beach's characteristic pink color. The intensity of the color varies depending on the light — it appears most vivid in the morning and evening sun.
Snorkeling at Pink Beach
The waters around Pink Beach are excellent for snorkeling. The coral reef just off the shore is incredibly diverse, with over 1,000 species of fish, sea turtles, and vibrant hard and soft corals. The visibility is typically outstanding, often exceeding 15–20 meters. Snorkeling equipment is included in all Top Komodo Tour packages.
Swimming and Relaxing
Pink Beach is a perfect spot to simply relax and take in the extraordinary surroundings. The water is warm, calm, and crystal clear. The beach is relatively sheltered, making it safe for swimming. Sunbathing on the uniquely pink sand while surrounded by the dramatic Komodo archipelago landscape is an unforgettable experience.
Best Time to Visit
Pink Beach can be visited year-round, but the best conditions for snorkeling and swimming are during the dry season from April to November. The sea is calmer and visibility is better during this period.
